Joseph and Ruth (Huffman) Baines, maternal grandparents of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, built their home here in 1904, following Joseph’s service in the Civil War and a career as a journalist, Texas Secretary of State, Legislator and attorney. The couple used prefabricated cement blocks, made locally by Hugo and Henry Basse, also known as Basse blocks on the exterior of the home. Our guest house is located 2.5 miles from downtown Fredericksburg, Texas. It's location is in the heart of all of the great hill country biking routes. The house is a two story, two bedroom home with king size beds and a down stair sitting room with a queen sofa sleeper. There are two full baths and a full kitchen and dining room. The house is on a 15 acre farm overlooking the Palo Alto Creek valley. It has an upstairs deck and downstairs porch over looking the valley. We supply farm eggs and lots of other breakfast goodies for your breakfast each day. We have cable television but no internet.
